A Global Campaign for a UN Resolution on Observe Every April 5th to 9th as
Educate our youth, academic institutions, parents, and civil societies, on the profound nature of sports for good health and well-being, and requesting Governments and the UN, underscoring its cost-effective nature, to invest in sports and physical activities in all sectors. Also, equally valuing the Goal16 on Peace, Justice and Strong institutions recalling the UN resolution 67/296 entitled ‘International Day of Sport for Development and Peace’. Also to educate the importance of sports as a platform to speak out for the realization of human rights, including the right to an adequate standard of living, the right to social security and the equal rights of women in economic life,
Encourage U N Member States, governments, and youth leaders in demonstrating solidarity among themselves in this issue, and express a unified support to the emotionally and mentally stranded, and conveying the message ‘I Am With You’. In doing so will encourage them to be hopeful and happy.
Engage the U N Member States, Governments and their Sports and Youth Ministry, for a collective effort to bring our youth to playgrounds and restrict computer gaming and social media activities. This could motivate our youth to engage socially, rather than being obsessed with social media. Several studies have indicated that the prolonged use of social networking sites (SNS), such as Facebook, may be related to signs and symptoms of depression. In addition, some authors have indicated that certain SNS activities might be associated with low self-esteem, especially in children and adolescents. Also have Physical Education instructors in all academic sectors. Conduct development training for teachers to help them manage the emotional and mental health issue of students and youth.
Since its inception in 2019, the World Youth Group has prioritized advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular emphasis on SDG 3 due to the critical importance of youth mental and emotional health. To address this global issue, the Members of the World Youth Group, in collaboration with Ambassadors of UN Member States and guided by recommendations from Sports and Youth Ministers, have been advocating for the establishment of an International Sports Week since 2021.
As a person who has been diagnosed with a mental illness from my military service, I know firsthand the role sport plays in mental wellbeing. Sport brings people together, but most importantly it helps keep the body and mind healthier, happier and fulfilled.
Hon. Mr.Phillip Thompson Shadow Defense Minister / Member of Parliament - AUSTRALIAIn our increasingly digital world, we must revolutionize how sports contribute to mental wellness by blending traditional athletics with innovative approaches like sports wellness leagues and AI-powered mindfulness coaching. As Georgia's youth representative, I envision a future where smart sports facilities automatically monitor athletes' mental well-being, while community sports apps connect young people across borders for shared physical and emotional growth. This motion isn't just about sports as we know them today – it's about pioneering new ways to harness physical activity for mental health in an interconnected, tech-driven world where every young person can access these benefits, regardless of their location or circumstances.
Hon.Ms.Mariam Lashkhi Member of Parliament - GEORGIASports are crucial for holistic development, promoting physical and mental well-being. Sports teach the importance of discipline, time management, and perseverance, which are valuable skills in all areas of life. Achieving goals in sports, whether individual or as part of a team, can boost self-confidence and self-esteem. Sports also teach individuals to overcome challenges and setbacks, fostering resilience and the ability to learn from mistakes.
Hon.Ms.Emma Theofelus Minister of Information and Communication Technology - NAMIBIAPeru, like other Latin American countries, faces rising crime and youth recruitment into criminal activities. Making sports a key strategy can help reduce crime, prevent drug use, and promote mental health. Expanding access to sports through public policies reduces social exclusion and fosters discipline and stronger communities. I believe investing in sports infrastructure and programs will have a meaningful impact not just in Peru but globally.
